The warm weather this spring has prompted many questions from campers anxious to put their trailers and tents into use. For more information about Lake Red Rock’s parks and other public lands, contact the Corp of Engineers office at 641-828-7522 or 641-628-8690. If you are interested in visiting Lake Red Rock’s campgrounds, the opening dates are listed below:

Corps of Engineers Parks

  • Howell Station: April 12
  • North Overlook: April 26
  • Ivans: April 26
  • Wallashuck: April 26
  • Whitebreast: April 26
  • Hickory Ridge Wilderness Camp: Year-Round (Portable toilets available mid-April through the end of October—potable water is currently unavailable, although there are future plans for potable water)
Iowa State Park (Iowa Department of Natural Resources)
 
  • Elk Rock State Park: Peak season – May 1 – September 30 Off-Peak Season – October 1 – April 30
Marion County Park (Marion County Conservation Board)
  • Roberts Creek County Park: April 6

Many of the campgrounds offer reservable sites, but the reservation system varies depending upon the agency that manages the park. Refer to the reservation contact information for each agency to reserve a spot:
